"Dirk shrugged... 'Welcome, by the way, to my offices.' He waved a vague hand around the tatty surroundings. 'The light works,' he said, indicating the window, 'the gravity works,' he said, dropping a pencil on the floor. 'Anything else we have to take our chances with." -- Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams Far less well known than his take on the science fiction epic, Adams also wrote his own detective novels. I love this book. Dirk Gently is not a Sherlock Holmes, forensic, bloodhound type detective. But he's not a Poirot, little grey cells, mentalist detective either. He's a holistic detective, which he describes as seeing the interconnectedness of all things. He does also mention that he specializes in missing cats and messy divorces however. 😆 This is a hilarious story. However, be prepared, it starts slow. Just be ready for the novel to meander a little bit for the first half until Dirk joins the story, and then it rolls along more easily, though it's very funny throughout. I'm particularly fond of the Coleridge dinner in the very traditional British college at the beginning. 🤣 BBC and Netflix also did two seasons of a TV show based on this series as well, which also looks hilarious. It doesn't look like it's based directly on this book however. Here is the trailer: https://youtu.be/uZWQnMlrhcI
